Assistant manager: Dietetics

POST: Assistant Manager:  Dietetics
REFERENCE NO: AMDIETETICS/1/2012
CENTRE: Inkosi Albert Luthuli Central Hospital
REMUNRERATION:  R303 666 pa Plus 13th Cheque, Medical aid – Optional
Housing Allowance - Employee must meet the prescribed requirement

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:  

  • National Diploma or Degree in Dietetics plus Current registration with the Health Professions Council of South Africa as a Dietitian.
  • At least three (3) year post registration  experience as dietician of which at least two (2) year should be managerial experience preferably at a tertiary institution
  • Recommendations:
  • Experience in student training. 
  • You will also be expected to promote departmental research/ audit through the generation of research projects and clinical audits per annum in the ongoing evaluation of nutritional and therapeutic practices and participate in the training of dietetic students.
  • Good understanding of clinical governance and clinical audit. 
  • Experience with Public and Private Partnerships ( PPP)

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, TRAINING AND COMPETENCIES REQUIRED  

  • Strategic managerial skills so as to provide leadership to the Dietetics’ Department of the Hospital.
  • Demonstrate an extensive clinical knowledge of human nutrition and associated therapeutic nutrition interventions. 
  • Good understanding of clinical governance & clinical audit and the ability to develop the departmental strategic and operational plans.  
  • Financial management skills so as to prepare a budget and be able to work within the budgetary constraints.  
  • Problem solving skills. 
  • Good verbal and written communication skills.  
  • Ability to write motivations for new products.  
  • Able to expand nutrition service delivery.
  • Knowledge of student training requirements.  
  • Research skills.  
  • Knowledge and experience of Public Service Policies, Acts and Regulations. 
  • Sound, negotiation, and interpersonal skills. 
  • Computer literacy and information management.

KEY PERFORMANCE AREAS                     

  • To provide leadership to the Dietetics’ Department of the Hospital, ensuring that efforts are focused on service delivery.
  • Ensure the necessary structures and procedures are in place in order to deliver a high level of nutritional care to meet the needs of patients.  
  • Work in a cost-effective and appropriate manner according to the departments' standards and financial targets. 
  • Help control the nutritional stock items of the hospital 
  • To provide competent, evidence based clinical nutrition service to designated wards and clinics within ALCH and have a Good clinical Nutritional Knowledge and                                   demonstrates an understanding of nutrition products on the market and understands the rationale behind the formulations.
  • In-service training to nursing staff and doctors in designated wards and clinics and
  • In service training to  colleagues with in the dietetics department and or province. 
  • The candidate should be involved in developing lectures, involved in developing information leaflets & setting up protocols within the unit and actively involved in CPD activities within the department.  
  • Involved with departmental audits, Quality improvement programmes, protocols and procedures and departmental research.  
  • Nutrition Service Delivery according to departmental standards,  maintains visibility and accessibility at all times at ward level and involved in mentoring Principle dietitians.  
  • Ensure that deadlines and objectives are met.  
  • Identify opportunities for expanding nutrition service delivery Successful management of the dietetics department.
  • Actively involved in the day to day financial and managerial operations of the department to ensure department is within the budget. stock taking –by  working with stores writing motivations for new products
